Wedding Checklist: 6 Important Things To Do After Your Wedding

Whew! You’re married, your wedding and reception are over, and you’ve said goodbye to all that planning, organizing, and mental preparation. Your wedding checklist is officially all checked off. Now you can just relax for awhile, right?

Well, yes. However, there are some very important post-wedding things you’ll need to consider.

Thank-You Notes

This is probably the most important and commonly-known post-wedding task on a wedding checklist. While a thank-you note may not seem like a big deal, it really is to many people. Your wedding guests who attended your celebration and brought you a gift should get a thank-you card from you and your new husband or wife. It may seem overwhelming, but do it sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the worse it’ll be.

Order Your Physical Wedding Album

Yes, we understand—once your digital wedding photos have been posted everywhere online and everyone has responded with lots of ooh’s and ahh’s, it can be easy to put off ordering your actual, physical album. However, don’t underestimate the sentimentality of having this item. It will be a treasured keepsake for decades to come. Plus, most couples already paid for it when they booked the photographer. So go ahead and get it!

Take Care Of Your Name Change

Trust us, this is a very important task on your wedding checklist. Don’t leave this for too long. If you’ve taken a new last name, it will need to change on your passport, driver’s license, social security card, taxes, etc. There are a few fees to do this, but it’s very important to not procrastinate with it. It gets frustrating and can even cause problems.

Wedding Checklist - Preserve Wedding DressPreserve Your Wedding Gown

Many brides are sentimental and want to keep their wedding dress—especially if it was expensive. Before too much time passes, send it to be professionally cleaned, and if you wish, preserved. Many brides choose to just have it cleaned and not preserved, but if you feel like you want to ensure your dress maintains its beauty, a professional can help survey and preserve it.

Remove Your Wedding Website/Registry

This is an often-forgotten thing to do. After the excitement of the wedding day is over, some couples forget to take down their registry site or wedding site—even when they’re paying for this service. If you think you may still receive gifts chosen from the registry, keep it up for a few months. However, if that doesn’t seem likely, it’s a good rule of thumb to close the website.

Leave Reviews For Your Vendors

No matter if you were crazy about your vendors or had a bad experience, leave reviews! Many caterers, venues, photographers, entertainers, bands, DJs, florists, and makeup artists heavily depend on reviews from clients to get them more business, so if they did a good job, reward them with a good review. And on the other hand, if a particular vendor did a bad job, other couples should be warned. Check Yelp or the vendor’s website for where you can leave a review for them.
